Blog #2

For Blog Entry #2 you will be analyzing the conflict in your story. DO NOT retell the story or give me a summary. Tell me what type of conflict is occurring in the book. I have listed the types of conflicts - you choose which one is in your book. Blog which type you choose and then prove to me you are correct by giving me an example from what you are reading. This needs to be in your own words and should be a minimum of one paragraph.

  1. Character Struggling Internally With Self: Sometimes conflict is internal. When a character struggles with moral dilemmas, emotional challenges or desires he or she deems unsavory, the conflict is with the character's own soul or conscience.Just because conflict is internal does not make the conflict any less compelling or exciting.

Character Struggling Against Another Character: This is the most obvious form of conflict, when a character in a book struggles with another character in the book. This can be in the form of arguments, conflicting desires, opposing goals, physical confrontations or emotional dilemmas.

  1. Character Struggling Against Forces of Nature: Sometimes all the characters in the book are the good guys and the conflict in the book is between all the people and forces of nature that are out of the characters' control. In The Stand the people are pitted against a virus that rage out of control, wiping out large portions of the population.

  2. Character Struggling Against Society: When the character is repressed by society and not by a specific character, the conflict takes place between that character and society. One example of conflict between society and the main character is Frankenstein, in which the monster faces the judgment and horror expressed by all of society, leaving him loveless and despondent.

  3. Character Struggling Against Fantasy/Supernatural/Technology: This type of conflict is usually found in specific genres of literary style, such as fantasy, science fiction, horror and supernatural books. When the character comes up against poltergeists, robots, aliens, divine forces or supernatural villains, the main character must call upon his or her strength to defeat the fantastic enemy confronting him or her.

Charlie St. Cloud

The book that I am currently reading is Charlie St.Cloud. This books conflict would have to be that the Character is Struggling Internally With his Self. Now that conflict is true because the brother is grieving with his dead younger brother. One of the conflicts are that he is struggling with liking this new girl named Tess she is a girl that is going to try and sail across the world all by herself. He is trying to figure out how to love her when his little brother (which is dead) is getting jelous because he thinks that Charlie is spending to much time with Tess.

Im reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamass there are several conflicts but one the stands out the most stands out the most would be Character Struggling Against Society, I think. The main character, Bruno, is having diffcult time ajusting to his new home. He had to move because his dad is one the name people in World War 2, so Bruno is agianst the war, technically. Thats why it would be Character Struggling Against Society.

Im reading The Chronicals of Vladimir Todd, there are several conflicts in the book but the main is Struggling Against Socity. the main charecter Vladimir is trying to save his life and his fathers whom had just come back "from the dead". Both the Slayer Society and the vampire society of Elysia wants him and his father dead. thats why it would be Struggle Aginst Society.

Im reading The Glass Castle the conflict that stands out the most to me is Character struggling against Society. The Main character Jeannette Walls has difficult time with fitting in with school mates and neighbors. Her family is extremely poor and often moves to avoid the government. People call her family dirty and lives in trash. That is why i think the main conflict would be Character Struglling Against Society.

The book I am currently reading is The Skin I'm In. This book conflict would have to be Character Struggling Against Another Character. Now this conflict is true because a girl name Maleeka is struggling trying to be like this girl name Char, she wants to dress like her and be pretty like her,so she is mostly having emotional dilemmas because she is tired of everyone calling her ugly and telling her she can't dress good and she is always arguing with Char and asking her to help her dress like how she dresses.

In my book "Crackback" the conflict is between the main character and another character. The main character is disrespectful to adults (his coach and his parents) and does things the way that he wants to instead of how he was told. When he is told to do somethin he dosent do it like he suppose to or just dosen't do it. In result of him not listening he gets punished for it.

RUNEMARKS

Maddy Smith lives in a world where Order rules and Chaos, (old gods, Faeries, goblins, magic, and glamours,) were all supposedly vanquished centuries before. She is born with a "ruinmark" on her palm, proof that a small bit of magic has survived. But where she comes from, all types of magic, dreams, to be imaginative was almost as bad as giving oneself airs. She is born with a destiny she has to deny in order to belong, but with her ruinmark comes a destiny, one which she has to accept her magic in order to survive. Maddy Smith faces conflicts with the supernatural, with herself, and against society.
